I spent the first two days of this week working in the photo studio on DVDs with Chuck Bender, and I wrote a somewhat glowing review of his dovetailing DVD, “Dovetailing Apprenticeship,” that was recently added to the inventory at shopwoodworking.com. That got me thinking about other dovetail information that Popular Woodworking Magazine had published. Dovetails are a big topic – use the search box at popularwoodworking.com to scour our website for all things dovetail, it will surprise you.
As I did just that, I stumbled on the video of Mr. Frank Klausz doing his three-minute dovetail. Click here to watch it again – it’s worth a second and third look. I then thought about Rob Cosman taking up the dovetail challenge and his video posted on Chris Schwarz’s blog. That reminded me that Cosman is coming to Cincinnati in early March, the 4th and 5th.
He will be at the Cincinnati Woodcraft store where on Friday he’ll bring a handplane back to life – that plane will then be given away to someone that attends his classes on Saturday. You know Cosman will cut a few dovetails while at the store. He may even try to break the three-minute dovetail mark.
If you’re in the Cincinnati area, you owe it to yourself to stop by Woodcraft and catch up with Rob Cosman. You can get more information at the store’s web site (click here, then scroll down about halfway) or by calling the store at (513)407-8371. If you cannot make the Cincinnati road trip, maybe a copy (click here) of “Advanced Hand-cut Dovetails,” one of Cosman’s many DVDs found in our store will do the trick.
