OK – you caught me. I’m a lazy cuss, and have bumped the post below back up to the top of the queue, because I can’t be bothered to write a new one. Or maybe, just maybe, we’re hard up against the deadline for the June issue, with the Binder read-through on Thursday, and I didn’t have time to come up with scintillating and titillating new copy. And yes, the links I’ve added near the bottom are also to older (but still accurate!) posts, about great places to eat in Cincinnati, and things for the family to do while you’re hanging out at the PWM shop on March 30-31 and fondling the tool porn.
Plan to call in sick to work on Friday, March 30, and make excuses to your significant (or not so significant) other on Saturday, March 31: Lie-Nielsen Toolworks is bringing its Hand Tool Event back to Cincinnati. And we’re opening the roll-up doors to our new shop to host.
Like the event last year, this one will feature the Lie-Nielsen folk and crates full of the company’s fabulous hand tools – and more. Christopher Schwarz of Lost Art Press (and a contributing editor to Popular Woodworking Magazine) will be here (no doubt talking in animal metaphors and gesticulating wildly about all things hand tool); Kevin Drake, founder of Glen-Drake Toolworks (maker of our collective favorite cutting gauge, the Tite-Mark) is coming in from California; Raney Nelson, owner of Daed Toolworks (now just up the road from us in Greenfield, Ind.) is driving down for the fun and bringing his beautiful infill planes; Dave Jeske, owner of Blue Spruce Toolworks will be here to show off his gorgeous chisels, mallets, marking knives and more; Bob Zajicek, the brains behind Czeck Edge Hand Tool, will be here with his awesome awls, marking knives, chisels and more. Plus Chuck Bender, lead instructor at Acanthus Workshop and the host of the new “No BS Woodworking” web cast will be demonstrating his incredible period furniture work; and once again there will be members of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM) here to give demonstrations both days on a wide variety of hand skills: inlay, carving, design, moulding planes and more.
The show will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

And think about bringing your family along for the fun (especially if you’re driving in from out of town). There are lots of things to do, see and eat in Cincinnati. Some of your readers (umm, like me) are a bit techno illiterate. A simple search of the blog (a newly acquired skill) would have uncovered the prior post on the Open House event. Yinz all do great work, and yes, there is a lot going on behind the scenes to press-out an issue of PWM. We oft don’t appreciate what is out of sight.
Greater’s – a magic word in our house. Used to drive to Cincy to get a cooler full at a time. James Patterson mentions it frequently in his Alex Cross series.
