Ketler entered the woodworking fold in the early 1980s after retiring from his job as an oceanographer. With only a Craftsman table saw and a few other basic tools in the basement, he began tinkering around with household projects. Before too long though, he found himself building cabinetry and shelving for friends – a second career was born.
“It came so natural,” Ketler said. “I didn’t advertise… it just led by word of mouth for many years.”
Now 82, Ketler’s commercial woodworking days are mostly behind him, but he’s still plenty busy in the shop. Some of his recent work includes a nicely built crib for his first granddaughter, Ellie, who just celebrated her first birthday last Sunday. Happy Birthday, Ellie!
As far as the new tools go, Ketler can’t wait to put them to use. He’s particularly excited to finally have a planer, a tool his shop has been missing. Coming up: new shelving for the house.
