I’m in Amana, Iowa this weekend for the Handworks 2017, and it’s a bit of a madhouse (but in a good way). It’s difficult to estimate the number of people, because the event is spread over five buildings in this historic German village, with hand tool makers, woodworking schools, timber framing, chairmakers, blacksmiths and more.
I also haven’t gotten to see too many of the tools up close, because I’ve been too busy meeting and talking to folks I know through Instagram and Facebook. But I did snap a few pictures, so I’m sharing them with you below.
We leave from our Cedar Rapids hotel in about 20 minutes to head back to the timber-framed barn for day 2, with an opening talk from Roy Underhill. More pictures to come tomorrow — and on our Instagram feed throughout the day.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
