Mike's interest in birds of prey led him to think about how can he carve one, releasing its energy and grandeur out of a block of wood.
He chose the Bald Eagle as a test case and studied this magnificent bird's wing structure and feather arrangement.
After looking at a few wing configurations he made a preliminary template
Then he started to contemplate how to make the wings, and connect them to the body. Although he considered carving the wings from one block of wood, he ultimately made them from two pieces, one for the front and many individual small pieces that became the feathers.
