Last time I showed how Mike had come up with a plan to build the wings from two components: the front part of the wing and the feathers.
The feathers are glued into a groove at the rear part of the wing's front. Mike used the same technique to instal the tail feathers too.
On top of making carving easier, this technique gives each feather a grain texture that is stronger than if the feathers had been carved form one blank.
Additionally, the grain on each individual feather resembles the pattern of a true feather, since the direction of the grain is elongated with the length of the feather.
