The June 2012 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine begins mailing to subscribers next week, and the digital issue link will be e-mailed to digital subscribers on April 18 – so don’t forget to check your inbox. (Are you still buying PWM on the newsstand? Look for it there the first week of May – but you can save about half off the cover price with either a print or digital sub; just sayin’.)
We do, however, have most of the free online extras posted that go with our articles for June, including “Where Does the Glue Go?” from Robert W. Lang – a fun and useful look at how best to glue mortise-and-tenon joints. That one goes with Jeff Miller’s “Perfection by Hand,” in which he shares plans for building his clever tenon and mortise jigs that will enable you to cut perfect-fitting joints with a backsaw and chisels – every time.
You’ll also find two free articles from Plimoth Plantation joiner Peter Follansbee, “A 1600s Joiner’s Tool Kit” and “The Best Oak Money Can’t Buy.” The first is self-explanatory; the second teaches you, step by step, how to produce your own stock from a log. And you may want hone your axe once you read the excerpt on drawboring in the June issue from Jennie Alexander and Peter’s new book, “Make a Joint Stool from a Tree: An Introduction to 17th-century Joinery” (Lost Art Press).
Plus, to go with our cover story – an updated Sligo County chair from bodger Don Weber, you’ll find plans for his “Barnsley Hay Rake Table” – it’s a gorgeous piece of Cotswold work, with butterfly splines and timber-frame appeal.
Plus, you’ll find online extras for Christopher Schwarz’s “Rabbets & Plows” article (a introduction to using these essential joinery planes), Glen D. Huey’s “The ‘Wright’ Shaker Counter” (a reproduction down to tapered drawer sides of a Grove Wright tailor’s counter from the 19th-century), Ken Burton’s “Oak & Mica Lamp” (a delightful accent lamp that combines Arts & Crafts and Asian influences) – and much more. You’ll find all at popularwoodworking.com/jun12.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
Having trouble with the subscription process. Is it working properly.
Was the digital issue link sent out on April 13 as you posted? If it was, not everyone was sent the link, I’ve checked trash and junk folders just to make sure it did not end up in one of them and I don’t have the link.
What happened to Christopher Schwarz’s campaign furniture?
I thought there was going to be an article in the magazine about it.
Why do the June issues of magazines come out in April? Makes no sense.
Why not drop the laughable and meaningless month dating model and adopt a volume and issue model?
“an udated Slingo County chair”? Should that be “updated”?
“digital issue link will be e-mailed to digital subscribers on June 13”
That is two months from now.
