THE LOG I FOUND IN A FIELD ,HAVE TURNED A MUSHROOM.THE TOOLS YOU SEE ARE ALL HAND MADE BY MYSELF INCLUDING THE FILES WHICH HAVE BEEN GROUND. THE MAIN TOOLS I MADE IN THE 70s 1979. THESE I MADE AFTER I SAW A JOB LOT OF TOOL STEEL AT A AUCTION.THESE WERE 9 LENGHTS X 1 1/4 INCH X 1 INCH X 14 INCHES LONG , TOOL STEEL.!!THESE IF I REMEMBER COST ME BACK THEN £15 WHICH IN THOSES DAYS WAS A FAIR BIT OF MONEY. THE HANDLES WERE OFF CUTS OF BEECH WOOD. SO WITH TIME I MADE A SET.EACH TOOL I MADE TOOK UP TO 7 HOURS FROM SETTING GRINDING CUTTERS // MILLING MACHINE CUTTERS.ITS GOOD PRACTICE WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR OWN TURNING TOOLS.YOU ALSO LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES . THE FILES ARE EASY JUST A NORMAL GRINDING WHEEL WITH VARIOUS GRADES OF WHEELS AND DEPENDING WHAT ANGLES YOU WANT YOU JUST GO AHEAD AND MAKE THEM. ALL MY GRINDING IS FREE HAND AS JIGS I ONLY USE IF I GRIND TOOLS TO A SPECIAL WAY IN WHICH I USE JIGS AND TEMPLATES..NOWADAYS I MAKE MY TOOLS USING CARBIDE TIPS AS ITS LONGER LASTING. EXCEPT I DRILL AND TAP THE TOOL STEEL TO MAKE FIT THE CARBIDE TIPS.THESE ARE HELD BY A GRUB SCREW OR IF I I NEED A CERTAIN TOOL THAT I WOULD USE OCCASIONALY THE TIPS ARE BRAZES ON. I WILL VERY RARLEY BUY A WOODTURNING TOOL AS PRICES NOW ARE EXPENSIVE. IF U NEED A GOUGE I WILL BUY TOOL STEEL AND MAKE MY OWN. AS FOR A COST OF ABOUT £6 FOR TOOL STEEL AND BEECH WOOD.I MAKE MY OWN .
