As editors, we search our two web sites (popularwoodworking.com and shopwoodworking.com) constantly for information for the online extras portion of all articles and most columns – the information, we hope, is both relevant and interesting. While searching the sites, I often come across books, articles and DVDs that have scads of interesting information, including tips and techniques.
Because woodworkers are visual, I plan, over the coming weeks, to pull short snippets of some of the DVDs found at our store web site. Each clip has something useful, it’s not the same clip shared on the shopwoodworking.com site (if there is a clip) and it gives you a look at what other information is found on that particular DVD.
To begin the series, I’ve pulled a short clip from “Buying & Restoring Hand Tools with Ron Herman,” in which Ron talks about braces. I’ve watched a small portion of this DVD, and it immediately moved to the top of my “to watch” list. Ron is, as anyone who attended one of his sessions at the Woodworking in America conferences would attest, a wealth of information. I think you’ll agree. Not a lot I didn’t already know in this little clip, but I like what I’ve seen, and certainly am interested in seeing the whole thing. Certainly could have used something like this when I first got into the hobby! Is this going to hit the Shopclass On Demand streaming service at some point? I still buy DVDs of things things that I find really useful to go back to, but it’s nice to watch a lot of the PW stuff on the streaming site.
