We are nearing the end of this multi-part series. Perhaps two more installments and we will be done. To put this project in context I thought it might be helpful to see what we are trying to accomplish.
A number of years back I built a bed for myself using pictures and plans from an article in Workbench Magazine, Heirloom Bed, March/April 2001, page 52. I modified it slightly to sit higher off the floor. A few years later I designed and built two matching dressers. At left is pictured the bed and at right the dresser.
This series has been about designing matching, useful and functional bedside tables with two drawers and some space for books or a small stereo unit. At left is a picture of the SketchUp model of the matching bedside table. You can see how the curves, legs and slatted sides appear in all three pieces. Perhaps one day I will design a matching bureau and mirrors.
Last week we completed the top, top trim and filler strips and stopped dado in the legs for the slats. This week we will add the top front rail with dovetails, and the drawer support system.
As promised, each week I will supply you with the SketchUp model completed to the point of each part in the series. So today you can download the Part 7 model by clicking on this hyperlink. But first sit back and enjoy the video that will bring you to this model.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
