I recently received advance copies of “Hand Tool Basics,” a new book by Steve Branam, hand tool instructor and author of the Close Grain blog. If you’re interested in incorporating more hand tools into your woodworking, but have felt overwhelmed by the prospect of learning how to use them, this book is a great visual guide to get you started. Step-by-step photos and instructions guide you through everything from sharpening tools to prepping stock to employing timeless joinery techniques.
“Hand Tool Basics” will be available in January and is currently available for pre-order at ShopwoodWorking.com
I have one advance copy of the book from the printer that I’m giving away. Be the first kid on the block to own a copy! Simply post a comment below and I’ll choose one winner at random. Winner will be announced Monday 11/13/17.

Count me in, please.

Please toss my name into the hat as well.
Count me in!
Count me in for the drawing, good hand tool book.
There’s definitely room in my bookcase for this one!
The front cover reminds me of the H.O. Studley tool box. I love hand tools, especially old ones, the way they feel in your hands and the heft of the cast iron and warmth of the wood. It reminds me of my grandfather. I try to use them whenever possible. As for the book, I would love a copy if you can spare it. Lie-Nielson is the only toolworks so far that remind me of the old tools from a century ago. All the old planes I use are from the turn of the century to the 20’s and 30’s. Ok, I could go on and on so I’ll stop now. Hope to here back from you soon.
Matt
