woodturning techniques for furniture makers

Thanks for all the great comments! Congratulations to forja000, the winner of this book giveaway. Stay tuned for more exciting book giveaways and if you’re interested in a copy of “Woodturning Techniques: Furniture & Cabinetmaking,” it is currently available at ShopWoodworking.com.

One of our newest books comes from Windsor chair expert Mike Dunbar. The book is a reprint of a classic text on woodturning from a furniture and cabinetmaking perspective. If you’d prefer to make your own furniture components rather than buy mass-produced factory-made parts, then “Woodturning Techniques: Furniture & Cabinetmaking” may be of interest to you. You’ll need access to a lathe, of course – but the rewards of learning how to use woodturning tools to create your own chair and table legs, spindles, rails and stiles are many. Finer details are often softened or marred in factory-turned pieces. Turning your own is a much better way to recreate period details or add your own creative touch to a piece of furniture.

Want to know more? This excerpt covers which woodturning tools give you the most bang for your buck.

I have one copy of the book to give away! Simply post a comment and I’ll choose the lucky winner at random (winner will be announced on Monday 3/27). Good luck!

—Scott Francis
