Sharpening on sandpaper is sure easy when the sandpaper rotates on a disc—you just hold the tool. That’s the idea behind the Work Sharp 3000, a machine that’s given me excellent results. As originally designed, the 3000 was equipped with a built-in ramp for holding chisels and plane blades at the correct angle, but you had to hold carving tools freehand. No longer.

For carving tools, the new Tool Bar Attachment changes everything. Mounted on the back of the 3000, it holds all those nifty jigs designed by Tormek for their legendary wet grinder. You get accurate and repeatable results every time. Tormek also makes jigs for turning tools, knives, scissors and many other types of blades. Tormek jigs range in price from about $35 to $100.

The Work Sharp tool bar swivels on a post, allowing use of the entire sharpening surface, so you won’t wear out just one spot on the sandpaper. The post adjusts up and down to create the bevel angle you need and has a micro-adjust wheel for fine adjustments.
