Installing a dado set on my left-tilt saw makes the scale on the rip fence un-usable. Here’s why: The cutters stack from left to right, toward the fence, so each cutter I add knocks the scale off by the width of the cutter.
Fortunately, recalibrating the scale is easy. After installing my dado set and checking it to see that it cuts the width I want, I unplug the saw and lock the fence in place next to the blade. Then I place a piece of tape on the scale’s zero mark. The edge of the tape is the new cursor line. Now I can use the scale for dado cuts without altering its regular setting.
